Rearranging & Caring for your Bouquet

Bringing home a wrapped market bouquet is a little moment of joy, and with just a few quick steps, you can help it settle beautifully into a vase. Our bouquets include all the key elements, but once unwrapped, they always benefit from a fresh cut, a little breathing room, and your personal touch.

Unwrap & Refresh

Remove the paper and bands, spread the stems out to let them relax.  Many of our flowers are harvested before being fully opened so you can watch them continue to open and reach their full potential before your eyes.  Thus, you want to give them room to expand.

Adjust & Rearrange

Trim the stems so the height of the bouquet is about 1.5X above the top of the vase.  You will want the stars of the bouquet (focal flowers) slightly varied in height so they look natural and airy.  Then vary the height of the smaller blooms and textures wherever they feel balanced.

Keep things loose rather than packed tightly.  It is often helpful to crisscross the stems rather than placing them all vertically.  This will also help create some negative space which will make the whole arrangement feel more garden-grown and effortless.

Finally, be sure to remove any leaves that would fall below the waterline. To maximize your enjoyment, follow the tips below to extend the vase life of your bouquet.

Pro Tips to Keep Your Bouquet Fresh All Week

  1. Start with a clean vase and fresh water.  If you wouldn’t drink from it, why should your flowers.

  2. Completely change the water every 1–2 days and recut stems each time. The stems are the flowers drinking straw.  The end can clog easily from unseen bacteria and minerals.

  3. While flowers on a windowsill looks great, the direct sun will make your blooms fade fast. Keep flowers out of direct sun and away from heat.

  4. Like every living thing, each flower has it’s own lifespan. Remove fading blooms promptly.
